Upon release of his debut album in 2009, Josh Smith, then aged 30, was already a veteran of the blues scene, having begun playing the Florida blues circuit at the tender age of 12.
Now a modern blues/rock solo artist and in demand LA session guitarist in equal measures, Smith is a force to be reckoned with both on record and in concert.
A versatile, firey and emotive guitar player, Josh seamlessly mixes jazz-inspired licks with a more roots-based Albert King influence on his 2015 release.
The opening track, ‘How Long’ sets the tone with a Hendrix meets Led Zeppelin vibe.
Guests appearances include Joe Bonamassa on the hard rocking title track and Kirk Fletcher on the wah-wah driven, Stevie Ray Vaughan inspired shuffle of ‘…And What’ – a regular set opener for Josh’s live gigs.
Smith’s vocal performance is gritty and mean throughout the record and it’s clear he has an ear for writing a strong hook.
Josh Smith will be touring the UK in 2019 and will no doubt win over yet more modern blues fans with his electrifying performances.
