Uptempo Rock ‘n’ Roll Guitar (part 1)

Over the next few lessons, we’re going to take an in-depth look at some uptempo rock ‘n’ roll rhythm and lead guitar. Chuck Berry classics such as “Roll Over Beethoven”, “Johnny B. Goode” and “Sweet Little Sixteen” as well as “Great Balls Of Fire” by Jerry Lee Lewis and Stevie Ray Vaughan’s “Love Stuck Baby” are essential listening to help prepare our ears for this unique rock ‘n’ roll sound.

Rock ‘n’ roll and the blues are close cousins, sharing a lot of harmonic properties, such as three chord, 12 bar song structures, dominant 7th tonality and double stops. We will be working with several backing tracks and will learn some typically rock ‘n’ roll licks and ideas that we can incorporate into our own solos.
