Laughing in the face of the difficult second album myth, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Tommy Shannon and Chris Layton hit the ground running from the opening bars of “Shuttle Buttin’”, the firey instrumental track that opens the trio’s second studio release.
The three-piece are joined on the title track by Stevie’s big brother Jimmie, who also plays rhythm guitar on the smokey slow blues of Eddie Jones’ “The Things (That) I Used To Do”.
This album captures Austin’s finest in his prime and is a worthy companion record to the trio’s 1983 debut, “Texas Flood”.
“Couldn’t Stand The Weather” is the record that features Stevie’s monstrous cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)”, along with the now modern classic “Cold Shot”.
