No blues record collection would be complete without B.B. King’s 1964 live classic. There is a reason why blues fans both casual and hardcore consider this an essential album. King’s vocal performance is sublime and the phrasing, sense of dynamics and note choice in his guitar solos is simply beautiful. The album features some of the best recorded examples of slow blues in the form of “Sweet Little Angel”, “How Blue Can You Get?” and “It’s My Own Fault”. King, his band and his audience are captured on top form here and despite the record having been recorded more than half a century ago, listening today somehow makes us feel as though we were there.
