If you’re looking for a great album for source material from which to ‘borrow’ classic blues licks, look no further than the underrated, Grammy Award winning 1985 release from blues legends Albert Collins, Robert Cray and Johnny Copeland.
From the opening version of T-Bone Walker’s “T-Bone Shuffle”, through to the emotive slow blues of the cover of Ray Charles’ “Blackjack” that closes the record, this album features some blistering guitar playing, with our three “Bluescateers” trading solos with reckless abandon.
Although Collins and Copeland are no longer with us, Showdown sounds like it could have been recorded a week ago. It’s a timeless classic with a fun vibe, providing 44 minutes of pure blues bliss. Highly recommended!
