Eric Gales needs no introduction. With 19 albums under his belt, this legendary lefty is a veteran of the blues scene.
His latest release opens with a barrage of fuzz and whammy pedal on the psychadelic instrumental ‘Intro’.
Next, we’re treated to the acoustic-lead shuffle of ‘Something’s got to give’. Later, ‘Whatcha Gon’ Do’ grooves along with a riff you’ll be humming for days, building into some gutsy lead work.
Elsewhere, ’It Just Beez That Way’ features some soulful wah-wah soloing while ‘Southpaw Serenade’ showcases Eric’s emotive slow blues playing.
What stands out perhaps the most about this album is its accessibility. As well as being a fantastic guitar player and vocalist, Gales is a great songwriter, with an ear for a strong hook. ‘How Do I Get You’ is a great example of a standout pop track.
This hook-laden album will no doubt appeal to guitarists and blues-rock fans, but it has enough of a pop edge to reach a wider audience.
